Connie MURPHY Obituary

MURPHY Connie Lanham, 69, passed away Sep 19, 2010. Mother was born Dec 24, 1940 in Gravel Switch, Marion County, KY to Jewell Lanham and the late Carl Lanham. She married the late Jerry R. Murphy in 1958, who are the parents of Lesley Murphy (Robert) Barr and Carla Murphy (Doug) Harris; and the grandparents of Olivia, Cole and Eli Harris. Mother made her personal profession of faith in Jesus Christ at 12 years of age. She loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, and mind which was exemplified through her active and tireless service to others, listening ear, encouraging words, friendly smile and sweet spirit of Christ which drew many people to her. We know history has proven that cancer shows no partiality and there is no rhyme or reason to whom it chooses but, although cancer does not care, God does. Mother felt honored and somewhat unworthy to have been chosen by Him to take this journey, however, she joyfully continued to serve and give Him praise every day. Mother's cancer was an endless testimony to her faith in Christ an assurance of her salvation through Him. One of her favorite scriptures was Acts 20:24 which reads, "However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me - the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace." We know our Mother would want us to thank all who knew and loved her for your presence in her life. Just knowing you helped to shape the daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend that she was. Survivors include her mother, Jewell, whom she owes eternal gratitude as she passed on the most extravagant and priceless gift, the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ; brothers, Jerry (Joyce) Lanham, Neil (Jackie) Lanham and Brad (Debbie) Lanham; sister, Mona Lisa Lanham (Rex) Whitlock; step-granddaughter, Elizabeth W. Barr; and several nieces and nephews from both the Lanham and Murphy families and many beloved friends. Mother left a godly legacy and she will continue to be "the aroma of Christ" throughout the generations that follow. Thank you, family and friends, for loving her so well, "For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing." II Corinthians 2:15. Funeral services will be 10:30am Wed at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd. by Rev. John Birchett. Visitation will be 5-8pm Tue at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Mother requested that contributions be made to Manna Harvest Church Building Fund, c/o Jerry Lanham, P.O. Box 73, Gravel Switch, KY 40328.

Leslie and Carla, I was so saddened to read of your mom's passing and also that your dad had passed as well. As you know my mom died 5 years ago. She dearly loved your mom and dad and they were so very good to her through all the years. I remember you two girls from happy, simpler days at Daytonas Beach as kids. I hold you in my heart and pray for comfort for the loss of both parents. God Bless and keep you both.

Thank you for the most beautiful obit I have ever read. What a powerful testimony to the glory of God. May your Mother rest in peace until that great getting up morning when she will meet the Savior face to face.

Carla and Leslie, I was so sad to hear of your sweet mother's passing today. Connie was such a loving lady, and I won't forget the encouragement she gave me years ago in a card she sent to me. I also remember the hospitality she showed during a prom breakfast at your house. Connie will surely be missed by so many. God bless your family.

Fearing the impact your illness would have on our generation, I have waited long, too long in relaying my memories of you, woven throughout my life and our family. As the oldest grandchild, for nearly seven decades, Connie, you have led and continue to lead our generation, on our journey through this life with God and to God.

Your mom was such a beautiful person. I thought alot of her. May you find comfort in knowing your Dad's smile must have been huge when he saw her. May you feel the Lord's strong arms as he carries you during these difficult times.

Our great loss, but heaven's wonderful gain. May you experience peace and comfort as God enfolds you in His love and grace. My life is so much richer for having known Connie. The insights into God's Word she shared in our Sunday School class will be missed. Love and prayers, Becky Mackey
