David Royse Obituary
April 2, 1949 - August 16, 2023
Lexington, Kentucky - David Royse, 74, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2023, in his Lexington, KY home after fighting an arduous battle with cancer. Born in 1949 to a large family, David learned early on the values of hard work, empathy, and service to others. After high school, David voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army and courageously served his country overseas as an active-duty Sergeant in the Vietnam War until 1972. He went on to run his flooring company for decades and later in life became a passionate community advocate for those fighting the disease of addiction.
Survivors include children David Royse (Cynthia), Charleston WV, Michelle Peebles, Denver CO, Jon Hurt (Francine), Nashville TN, Patrick Royse, Lexington KY, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and countless other family, friends and strangers impacted by his compassion and charity. He was predeceased by his wife Ramona Royse in 2018, his son Chad Royse in 2020, his grandchild Amanda Peebles in 2010, and four siblings.
A Celebration of Life for David & Ramona will be held on September 15, 2023, from 11am-1pm at Fender Funeral in Lexington, followed by a committal service with military honors at 2:30 pm at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff at the Lexington Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Bluegrass Care Navigators & First Light Home Care for their support and compassion amidst his journey home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to Recovery Café Lexington, in memory of David Royse.
