I recently, read of David's passing in 2009, and was deeply saddened. He and I were friends in the late 1960's. I moved in 1969 to Virginia. As time passes, we may not see each other but friendships are enduring. I offer my sympathies to his sister, and his extended family. Also, to his friends! May the Lord give you comfort and strength in the years ahead!

I met David in 1966, when I moved into his neighborhood. We went to school together at bryan station where he played on the football team. I left, lexington in 1969. I lost touch with David, and many other friends which I often regret. I recall, David being a comical but humble soul, who always made me laugh. We had many happy experiences fishing together, and his preparation in tuning my boxing skills. I was no jerry quarry. I was saddened to hear of his later disability and eventual death. I will miss his presence in my life. Rest in peace my faithful friend. Drew Thompson

Dave, you will be remembered as the greatest storyteller and jokester that I have ever known. Some of the stories that I have relayed to friends have had them laughing hysterically. It was rather prophetic that he passed on the 133rd anniversary of the "Battle of Little Bighorn", June 25. He was, to me, a scholar on the subject of George Armstrong Custer. It was utterly amazing to listen to him quote from books that he read on the subject. He also corrected anything that I read to him about the man that was incorrect. I referred to you as "Mr. History" and that was certainly the case. Your knowledge of the Civil War was amazing and I learned quite a lot as you and I went to different battlefields relating information about troop movement, weaponry and tactics. As is stated on the regimental flag of the 6th Michigan Cavalry--"FEAR NOT DEATH, FEAR DISHONOR".

Dave was the best story teller i've ever known. Any phone call less than an hour long didn't hardly count.
I liked him a lot. For 42years!

Trudy,
You will be missed more than you know. I will miss our late night 2 hour conversations. Our discussions ranged from politcs, religion, history, books, realationships and the memories we made together particularly our days at EKU and with Sigma NU .We shared many laughs and a few tears. We remained connected long after our college days were over.We shared many secrets and tried to "solve the problems of the world". As much as I will miss you I know that your suffering is now over and a new wonderful journey has now started. Until we meet again my friend!!
To Daves sister and neices, he spoke of you often with great affection, you meant the world to him. I know you will miss him greatly.

My son and I have been blessed with numerous conversations with David over the past several months. We were amazed with his life experiences, his intelligence, his memory for details, and his kindness. Dave had Phil Refbord mail my teenage son one of his favorite board games. Thanks Dave, we'll take good care of it. We're glad Dave found us after all these years (I originally met Dave in college). He called often and kept us updated on his health. When we were not home, he always left a nice message and would say something about still being alive. He had a short life and a great sense of humor. He was ready to see what lies ahead. God Bless Dave, his friends, and his family. He has left his mark forever in our lives. Thanks for the kind words you had for me and thanks for finding the areas of interest that allowed my son the opportunity to feel somewhat of a father/son relationship. We miss you and pray that what lies ahead is a blessing to you.

Dave, my thoughts have been with you and your family since I heard the news of your passing. I knew you from about the third or fourth grade, my memory fails me at this time.
I always knew no matter what you were my friend. I hope you knew the same. Sorry we did not run in to each other more often at Buffalo's and Dad's. Rest easy my friend.

Dave always had a life story to share with any and every person he came to know. He could always impart wit and wisdom within his conversations with all. He was, and will forever will be a Brothers Brother within Sigma Nu and to all who came to be his friend. I will miss his straight-talking spirit, a man that did not mince his words and yet kept dignity in all that he said and did in his short life.
We that knew him from his earliest days at EKU and Sigma Nu on throughout his life have been blest to have him as a friend and Brother. Rest in peace, your last battle has been fought and you have your victory in heaven.

Dave will be long missed by the many brothers of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He unselfishly gave his time and energy to rebuild and strengthen Theta Theta chapter, long after leaving EKU. His was a devoted brother, friend and supporter, whose intellect, perspective and great sense of humor will long be remembered by all who knew him.

Dave,
You could make times interesting during the college days. I have laughed and continue to laugh because of some of the moments I was able to experience with and around you. Your stories will live on through your brothers, sisters and friends. Fair the well Dave Trudell!

Dave was one tough and rugged guy! One of the toughest people I've ever known. His stamina was unbelievable! He had tremendous internal and physical strength. It is evident by what he endured over the years that he was a uniquely hardy person. Most individuals in his situation would have given up years ago. Dave kept "hangin in there" as was his favorite expression.
Due to his physical constraints Dave's world became smaller with each passing year. However, he didn't complain about it or about his poor and declining health. He took it all in stride. To him, it was what it was - period.
I was blessed to get to know Dave better in his last months. We shared many memories. His memory for details was phenomenal! He reminisced nostalgically about his family & childhood years, high school days & friends, EKU & Sigma Nu, his experiences, travels, books and occupations. We talked about all of those things and politics, God and eternity. Dave loved to talk and he held and expressed STRONG opinions on many things. He will be greatly missed and long remembered.
LOVE - HONOR - TRUTH...This is the Life, the Way and the Light of Sigma Nu. This is the Creed of our Fraternity.
Adios Brother Dave!
