Don Fugate

1946 - 2016

FUGATE Don, age 69, of Lexington and formerly of Perry County passed away at home on Sunday, April 3, 2016. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 25 years Loretta "Toni" Fugate, and one son Don Michael Fugate of Lexington. Mr. Fugate was preceded in death by his mother Opal Campbell Fugate and father Burley Fugate of Rowdy, Kentucky and his father-in-law Ollie Gene Jones of Perry County. He is survived by five brothers and one sister: Darrel (Madelene) Fugate, Dana (Janet) Fugate, Dorvan Fugate all from Perry County; Denny (Renee) Fugate of Jackson, KY Dale (Terrie) Fugate of Frankfort, KY and Doris (Jimmy) Miller of Rowdy, KY and mother-in-law Jeanette Jones of Perry County. Mr. Fugate also leaves behind a host of very special nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, friends, neighbors, old colleagues, former students and his much beloved fur baby and faithful companion Olly. Mr. Fugate was a 1964 graduate of M.C. Napier High School. He was a 1968 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. Mr. Fugate was a former teacher, coach, athletic director and small business owner in Perry County. He was an avid sports fan, having attended the KHSAA High School Boys State tournament 53 years straight without ever missing a single game played. He presently attended the Man O' War Church of God. His church family toiled in prayer faithfully for his healing, comfort and God's peace. His family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his church family and Pastor Mitchell Tolle, his Doctor, Susan Liddle, and Home Health nurse Debbie Hadden. Also faithful neighbors who were always available; nurses Gladys Griggs, Alicia Binford, and Trina Shelby, and a longtime friend John Delpont, as well as the countless people who continually prayed and sent food during his last weeks. Services for Don Fugate will be held at Milward-Man O' War, 1509 Trent Blvd. in Lexington, KY on Wednesday, April 6, 1pm. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm. The service will be conducted by Pastor Mitchell Tolle and life-long friend John Delpont. Entombment will be immediately following the service at the Lexington Cemetery Mausoleum. Active Pall bearers will be his son and five brothers, Darrell Fugate, Dana Fugate, Dorvan Fugate, Dale Fugate, Denny Fugate, and Don Michael Fugate.
