Duane Bennett Obituary

HARLAN - Duane H. Bennett, 73, of Baxter, Harlan County, KY died Nov. 9, 2006. Mr. Bennett devoted his working life to the mining of coal in Harlan and Bell counties. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ves and Fairanna Bennett, of Harlan County, his brothers, Clyde V. Bennett of Grays Knob, Dr. Dale Bennett of Cincinnati, OH; Harry Bennett of Harlan County; Homer Bennett of Harlan County; and his sister, Anna Ruth Bennett Davis of Baxter. Mr. Bennett is survived by his eight children and 17 grandchildren; Susan and her husband Mark; Duane Jr. and his wife Debra, and their children, Sara Grace and Parker; George and his wife Sheri, and their children Christopher, Michelle and Andrew; Fairanna and her husband Trent, and children Randy and Amanda; Lisa and her children, Chelsey, Blake and Noah, Benjamin and his wife Dawn, and their children Aubry and Meredith; Libby and her children Stephen and Cody; and Sarah and her husband Nadeem , and their children Amna, Kalib and Armaan; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his former wives, Ruby and Eleanor; and by nephews and nieces. Visitation will be Sun, Nov. 12 from 4:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Harlan Center, 201 S. Main Street, Harlan. Funeral services will be conducted Mon, Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. at the Harlan Baptist Church with the Rev. Pete Rowe officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Duane Bennett, Jr., George F. Bennett, Benjamin R. Bennett, Whitley Davis, Trent Rainey and Mark Bascom will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the superintendents, foremen, and coal miners of Manalapan Mining Company, Clover fork Mining and Excavating, Left Fork Mining Company and B.&S. Trucking. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bank of Harlan (c/o Judy Browning, P.O. Box 919, Harlan, KY 40831) in regard to a charity that will be established in Duane's honor. The arrangements are being directed by Harlan Funeral Home.
