Grace Kingsland Obituary
November 22, 1925 - April 6, 2025
Lexington, Kentucky - Grace Elaine (Harrington, Harvey) Kingsland passed away on April 6, 2025, in Lexington, KY, at the age of 99.
Born on November 22, 1925, in Lovell, WY, Grace grew up in Basin, a town known for its sugar beets and Wildcat oil wells. After graduating from Basin High School, they pursued higher education in Montana and enrolled in nursing school. During World War II, Grace joined the Cadet Nurse Corps and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, serving as a 3rd Lieutenant.
Following the war, Grace lived in Oregon and Washington State. In 1969, they embarked on a remarkable journey through the South Pacific as a traveling nurse. Their work took them to remote island camps across New Guinea, Australia, Bougainville, the Philippines, Singapore, and Borneo. Along the way, they formed friendships with an ambassador from Singapore, a sultan from Malaysia, and a mountain tribal chief in Papua New Guinea.
In 1973, Grace returned to Portland, OR. They later earned their Bachelor of Science degree from Portland State College. A devoted parent of four childrenLou (Gillian) Harvey, Robert B (Shirley) Harvey, Joan (Harvey) Chester, and Jan (Harvey) Petty. Grace also leaves behind eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A small private family service will be held at a family property on the Columbia River near Cathlamet, WA.
Grace's life was filled with adventure and dedication to service. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew them.
