James May Obituary

MAY James W, 69, passed away peacefully March 13th at St. Joseph Hospice in Lexington, KY. Jim was born in Greenup, Kentucky to James and Ruth May on August 1, 1947. He was an Eagle Scout and Valedictorian of the class of 1965. After graduating High School, Jim joined the National Guard where he served in the National Guard Band playing trumpet. He graduated from the University of Kentucky where he was a proud member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Following gra-duation, Jim worked in the Financial Industry and founded University Mortgage Company. Jim enjoyed UK sports, baseball, Nascar and loved to cook. He was passionate about helping and men-toring others but his most proud accomplishment was his family. Jim is survived by his wife, Debby and children, Lucy (Jimmy) Nall, Betsy May, Olivia Hunter, Todd Hunter, Shawn (Beth) Hunter, and Paige Hunter. He was extremely proud to be a grandfather "Pop-Pop" to Molly, Annie, Callie, Preston, Claire, Emma and Cooper. A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing in Nicholasville, KY on Thursday, March 16th at 7pm. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 4-7pm prior to service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Children's Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass. www.ClarkLegacyCenter.com

Jim introduced us 25 years ago. He was a wonderful friend and will always hold a special place in our hearts.

I am so deeply saddened to hear of Jimmy's passing. While we had not seen each other for a while, he has always held a special place in my heart since our close friendship in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house at UK in the late 1960's. We had many classes together in the business school, worked very closely together as officers of the fraternity and were just genuinely close and good friends.

I knew Jimmy as well as a man can get to genuinely know someone else. He was a good man...a truly fine man...in the very best sense of those terms. He was kind and loyal, the sort of friend you could count on no matter your problems or how long it may have been since you were last with him. He was also very capable and respected, which was why he was elected President of the fraternity his senior year.

Many people will be grieved to learn of Jimmy's passing, none more than me. My deepest sympathies go out to his family.
