James Oexmann Obituary

OEXMANN James Richard, 94, of Naples, Florida, died in Lexington, Kentucky on Sunday, July 19, 2015, with his wife Marjorie by his side. Born in Vincennes, Indiana on November 3, 1920, he was the only child of Elizabeth and Richard H. Oexmann. He graduated from Owensboro Senior High School, and attended Western Kentucky University before graduating from Indiana University and the University of Louisville School of Law. During WW II, he served as an Army officer in Europe, where he met his future wife Joan Copland-Griffiths of Potterne, England while playing tennis. They returned to Richard's hometown of Owenboro, where he would practice law, operate several businesses and raise their 5 children. They moved to Lexington in 1967 for Joan to pursue her study of Art History at the University of Kentucky. Joan passed away in 1983. Richard loved the outdoors, hiking, biking and sailing. In 1993, he married a lovely lady, Marjorie Hornaday at Monteagle, TN. They especially enjoyed traveling and sharing their families. He is also survived by his five children: Elizabeth Murrell (William), Trudy Tibbs (Phillip), Mary Joan Mitchell (Paul), James Bennett Oexmann (Harriet) and Henry Oxe-mann; three step-children: Joy Timbrook, Charles Horn-aday, and Scott Hornaday; grandchildren: Tommy Quisenberry (Amy Tiu), Charles Oexmann (Maria), Joan Margaret Oexmann and Helen Oexmann; step grandchildren: Alex Mitchell and Alice Chipangura; great-grandchildren: James and Bennett Oexmann, Lincoln and Evelyn Quisenberry; step great-grandchildren: Anashe and Talya Chipangura; nephew Michael Copland-Griffiths (Larysa) and niece Alex Lang (Stephen). A memorial service will be officiated by The Very Rev. Carol Wade at Christ Church Cathedral at 166 Market Street, Lexington, Kentucky on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 10:30am.
