John Layton Obituary

passed away Sept. 18. He was born in Mt. Vernon, KY to the late John Edd and Inez Ray Layton. He is survived in death by his wife of 67 years, Jean Johnson-Layton. Collis received his Bachelor's Degree in Agribusiness from the University of Kentucky then served in the Air Force from 1951-53 as a 1st Lieutenant. He worked at Southern States Cooperative for 39 years as a store manager and district manager. Collis was a long-time member of Cynthiana Christian Church where he served as an elder and in other leadership roles. Collis is survived in death by his children - Anne Layton, Athens, GA., Susan Cooper (Ralph) Paris, John Layton (Saundra) Owenton, Carol Mudrak (Jeff) Georgetown. In addition, he has seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by two children, Linda Crossfield and John Edd Layton; and sister, Edwina Featherston. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 21 at the Johnson's Funeral Home in Georgetown from 12 PM to 2 PM followed by a service beginning at 2 PM. Services will be officiated by Larry Bishop and Scott Winkler. Burial at Sunset Memorial, Frankfort. Casket bearers will be Brody Layton, Jonathan Cooper, Erik Mudrak, Brian Mudrak, Adam Morton, Jason Crossfield and John Elgin. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the MS Society.
