Linda was in an office across from mine at UNC when I was a PhD student and she was a faculty member. In my last year in the program, she served as an informal mentor to me, helping me to get through the difficulties of the dissertation process and job search. She was generous with her time with me, and her advice was priceless in helping to keep me calm and make good choices. We've been friends ever since, although sometimes all I was able to manage was an email to her on her birthday. I didn't realize she had passed away until I tried sending her annual birthday greeting yesterday. I'm so saddened by the loss of this wonderful soul who was kind and caring and who selflessly helped so many people like me.

Prof McDaniel was in my dissertation committee. She was a very energetic person, very intelligent, and I learned the whole auditing literature because of her. Auditing academia will miss her very much.

To the family of Linda McDaniel:
Linda was a client of ours, helping her plan several of her European trips. We were saddened to hear of her passing. Linda was a very brave and courageous person, it was a
pleasure to work with her. We will miss her.

LINDA (Always)
[I had the great fortune of meeting Linda when she was just twenty-one years old. Even then she had the same vibrant, fun loving, yet caring personality. She loved to travel, eat and to dance (taught me the Hustle routine in the disco 70's). She adored her two sheltie dogs, and even rescued a snake from her front yard. Linda had a personality that was so endearing that it made a lasting impression on everyone she met. So much so that we remained dearest of friends till the end (40+ years). She was my support though many trying times. And I did my best to comfort and cheer her when she needed it. Her brightness' is lasting, and wilI live on in my memory. In my heart I can hear her saying: ]
The secrets that I keep
The things I choose to share
With those who laugh and weep with me
Show just how much I care.
And every time I eat
Good food and drink fine wine
I remember life is oh so sweet
And am thankful for the time.
The music that I hear
That makes me want to dance
It sings so deep within my soul
And dares me take a chance.
And through the many moves
To further a career
I somehow always find the strength
To conquer all my fears.
For friends are always there
I never am alone
They guide, they help, they strengthen me
They take me safely home.
No matter where I go
On earth or sky above
The lessons that I learn from life
All teach me how to love.
Though all may be impressed
By things that I have done
The thing that matters MOST to me -
My daughter and my sons.
Don't count or add the times
We laughed, and times we cried
For in the end, the bottom line
To know how hard we tried.
NOW after all the years
Together or apart
It comforts me to know ALWAYS'
We're in each other's hearts.
Always,
Robert

Shig, David, Sara and Michael, you all are in Kendra and my prayers and hearts at this most difficult time. I have spoken often with Shig during Linda's illness. The loss of a mother is never forgotten yet is a source of strength as her children move forward with your lives. Make your mother proud.
Sincerely

Linda was always sweet and warm when she came to Arthur Murray; a very gentle soul. I enjoyed dancing with her, and I'm sorry she was called too early. Blessings, Chip

David, Michael and Sarah, my deepest sympathy to each of you. I worked with your Mother for many years at UK. We had many chats and most of them were about you. She was so proud of each of you and loved you dearly. You are in my prayers.

You always knew how to say the right things to me and understood what I was going through. You are going to be so missed but I will forever cherish the memories I have of how kind you were to Landon and myself. We love you and will miss you Linda, but I will keep up with the kiddos as much as I can! My thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends.
