Marion Eldridge

1924 - 2016

ELDRIDGE Marion Franklin, 92, husband of Ruby Wilson Eldridge, died Friday, June 17, 2016, at Sayre Nursing Home in Lexington, KY. Born on March 13, 1924 in Lexington, he was the son of the late Alexander and Anna Priscilla Sherrod Eldridge. He graduated from Henry Clay High School and worked for the L&N, Seaboard and CSX railroads for over 42 years, retiring on September 5, 1986. Marion was an avid railroad fan and took many movies and photos of trains and trolleys many of which have been published in DVD'S, books and railroad magazines. His knowledge of local, state, and national railroad lines was impressive. He was a charter member of the Bluegrass Railroad Club. Marion was a member of Maxwell Street Christian Church, Gardenside Christian Church and Tates Creek Christian Church. He taught Sunday school for over 60 years, sang in the choir, and served in leadership roles. He was a good and faithful servant. In addition to his wife of 70 years he is survived by two daughters; Brenda Eldridge (Eddie) Smith of Lexington and Rebecca Marian (Paul) Wilson of Versailles, four grandchildren: Annie Smith of Seattle, WA, and Kelly Alyce (Brent) McGee, L.C. Wilson, Melissa Alexandra Wilson, three great grandchildren all of Versailles, KY; beloved nieces, cousins and fellow railroader and dear friend, Chester Powell. The family thanks the staff and friends at Sayre Christian Village and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class at Tates Creek for special friendships and acts of kindness. Funeral services will be held at Kerr Brothers on Harrodsburg Rd. Tuesday at 10:30am, burial service will follow at the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8pm Monday at Kerr Brothers. Memorial contributions are suggested to Sayre Christian Village or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
