Sorry for the late response but I just found out - Mark and I swam together at GLSA in the 60s and played basketball against one another in the parochial league. Mark also successfully defended us against a bogus lawsuit during the construction of our home in the early 90s, and he was always kind, thoughtful and professional in his work with us. So sorry that he was taken in such a senseless and horrific way - He deserved a long happy life. Condolences to John, Jeff and the rest of the family.

It's been weeks and still we are reeling from Mark's tragedy. What a wonderful guy Mark was; I admired him greatly. He was gracious, classy, humorous and just a fun guy to be around. I saw him frequently downtown, whether it was in the elevator, at the gym or having lunch and we always exchanged a genuine smile and pleasant conversation. He spoke so proudly and easily about you Mary Lynn and about you girls. He was a cool guy! I send my deepest sympathies to all of you and wish you all the best on your long journey of healing. I'll miss you brother Mark......

Remembering Mark as a true role model. Hadn't seen him since 1975 and one day in 2008 I see him at a new employer of mine. He never changed, always a smile and a bright spot in my day. We should all try to live more like he did. The world will be a better place. Praying for strength to his family and will continue to do so.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mark's passing. He was a very kind family man. I knew him as a customer at a local bank I formally worked years ago. I was a new teller at the time from eastern KY with 3 sons. He told me wonderful stories of his daughter's college experience in VA as well as stories about his other daughters. He was so proud of all 3. Everyone at the branch enjoyed waiting on him with that contagious smile. His family is in our prayers.

As we pass through this life, we each meet innumerable people. In various ways they each become a part of our own life -- many are routine and a few are special.

Mark Hinkel was one of the special ones. We became fast friends in 1980 while attending law school. While our paths did not cross as frequently in recent years, every time we met or spoke, we picked up right where we left off. Mark was truly a "people" person, who approached all aspects of his life with joy and vigor.

It was a privilege to know Mark Hinkel. Rest in peace, my friend.

My prayers go out to the Hinkel family. Mark always had smile and a pat on the back for those he knew. It was always a pleasure to see Mark and his dad at McDonalds every weekend. He will be truly missed.

Such a tragic event that caused the loss of such a special and wonderful man in everyone's life.
I have been away from Lexington for years but I knew Mark while in high school and he and his brother John were special friends to me. I will never forget Mark's wonderful smile and his always kind words.
My family will pray for the strength of the Hinkel family through this very tough and sad time.

May God bless your family in this time of sorrow. With all the good works that Mark did in the community, we all know he is looking down from heaven.

I never had an encounter with Mark when he was not smiling and I did not feel better after talking to him. My contact was less frequent in recent years becuase I no longer lived near him, but I had the good foutune to see him in court in Knott County a few months ago. As always, Mark was smiling and our brief conversarion lifted my spirits. I know he is now smiling in heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and the many who had the good fortune to know Mark.

There are no words to describe how sad Mark's passing is. I knew Mark was a top-notch lawyer and a devoted family man, but I was unaware of all his contributions to the community. We will all miss Mark, but if Heaven is one's final reward, it was well-earned in this instance.
Rest in peace, my friend.
