Martin Crowley Obituary

Martin Franklin Crowley
January 26, 1981 - November 11, 2021
Paris, Kentucky - Martin Franklin Crowley, 40, died in a house fire in the early morning of November 11, 2021, in Paris, Kentucky. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky on January 26, 1981. He grew up in Lexington, went to schools there, and lived in England several times with his family while growing up. He graduated from Henry Clay High School in 2000, and afterwards took classes at Lexington Community College. He worked as a baggage handler and plane cleaner at the Lexington airport for several years, and for the past 15 years has worked as a cashier at Kroger.
He loved traveling, especially by airplane or train. He was a serious and opinionated sports fan. He adored the UK Wildcats' basketball and football teams and the Cincinnati Reds, and rooted fervently against the Duke basketball team and the New York Yankees. He loved Anglican church music, and he sang for many years and toured with the men and boys' choir at Christ Church Cathedral.
Martin was a devoted uncle to his niece and nephew Lena and Max, a loving brother and son, and had a gentle personality that was uniquely his own. What you saw is what you got with Martin, and people loved him for that. He is survived by his parents Philip and Lillie Frank Crowley, his sister Sarah Crowley, her husband Aaron Fischer, and their children Lena and Max, all of Berkeley, California, and a large number of cousins and friends.
A service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral on Wednesday, November 17, at 6:00pm, with a visitation from 4:30 to 5:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Cathedral Choir Tour Fund, by check to Christ Church Cathedral, 166 Market Street, Lexington, KY 40507, or online at www.cclex.org, with "Martin Crowley - Choir Tour Fund" in memo field.

Martin was one of the first people I met at Kroger and was one of the kindest people I have ever met in my life. He had a great since of humor and loved to talk about high school band with me. I loved bagging for him when he was cashiering because he liked to go fast and I could keep up with him. When I was out of town for school he would tell my mom to say hi to us for him. I am going to miss talking to him and listening to him tell me about the latest UK game.

We took care of Martin's car for years. He will be missed. Loved talking UK ball with him when he came in for maintenance.

I cannot count the times that I have went through Martin's line at Kroger in Beaumont over the 13 years I have lived in that area and the many short conversations that we had, but enough for him to have touched my life. I am so saddened by this news and the loss of this wonderful man. You go through life and you see people like Martin, who you really don't know, then something tragic like this happens and suddenly the man who has checked out your groceries for years, is a Choir singer, has lived in England, loved to travel and it was always quite obvious who he rooted for in sports, the one thing I knew about him. He was one of those cashiers whose line you wanted to go to even if it was long. I will so miss seeing his smiling face and our short conversations. My condolences to his family and friends.
