Mary Moore Obituary
FRANKFORT - Mary Elizabeth Walton Moore, formerly of 100 Evergreen Road, Frankfort, KY, died Mon June 18, 2007 at St. Luke's East Hospital, Ft. Thomas, KY. She had been at Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Ft. Thomas, KY, for two and one-half years. She was the widow of Howard D. Moore of Bridgeport and who died August 31, 1995. She was born Oct 5, 1923, at Washington, KY to Merrill and Elizabeth Cooney Walton. She graduated from Washington High School, Mason County, KY, in 1941 as valedictorian of her class. She received her B. S. Degree from Eastern Kentucky University in 1944 and her Masters Degree from the University of Kentucky in 1961. She taught only in the Franklin County Public School System for 40 years. She started teaching as the business teacher at Bridgeport High School, then taught at Franklin County High School from 1958 to 1980 and retired from Western Hills High School in 1984. She also taught evening classes at Kentucky State University in Business Education. She was most proud of planning, designing and coordinating the Business Department at the new Western Hills High School. She was a member of many professional organizations, and received many awards for her work. She received the Excellence in Teaching Award from Eastern Kentucky University, Outstanding Business Teacher in Kentucky, and the Pioneer Teacher Award given by the Frankfort Chamber of Commerce and Franklin County Farm Bureau. In 2002, she was inducted into the Franklin County High School Hall of Fame. She was a long-time member of Good Shepherd Church in Frankfort. She is survived by three sisters: Peggy Knopf, Covington, KY; Jean (Tom) Romard, Cincinnati, OH; and Patricia (Jack) Stevens of Cincinnati, OH. Also surviving are four nephews and one niece: Gary Gallenstein, Florence, KY; Kevin Romard, Cincinnati OH; Mark Stevens, Albuquerque, NM; Keith Romard, Cincinnati, OH; and Tara Short, Archbold, OH. One brother-in-law and sister-in-law survive. They are Adolph (Doc) Moore, Frankfort, KY; and Kathleen Perry, Lexington, KY. The Mass or Christian Burial will be held at 10 o'clock Thu at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Leestown Road Visitation will be at Rogers Funeral Home on Wed from 5-7 o'clock. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Church.
