Maurice Marshall

1921 - 2016

MARSHALL Maurice K., known to his friends as "Keith", passed away peacefully at age 95 on Friday, October 28, at UK Chandler Hospital in Lexington, KY. Keith was born 1921 in Draper, Iowa to James and Maye (Shaw) Marshall. He married Gwendolyn R. Etchison, the love of his life, in Omega, Indiana on June 21, 1947. He received bachelors degrees in aeronautical engineering and mechanical engineering from Purdue, and a masters degree in mechanical engineering from UK. He served in the Navy and the Coast Guard. He worked for Otis Elevator before he joined the Engineering faculty at UK where he retired from teaching in 1987. He earned many awards as a licensed mechanical engineer and was the member of many professional associations. As a proud member of Phi Delta Theta he returned to Purdue annually to participate in the Phi Open golf tournament. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Frank and Millard, and 1 sister, Cecile. Survivors include 3 sisters, Rosamond, Violet, and Lucille, his loving wife of 69 years Gwendolyn (Etchison), 2 daughters, Joan Morris (Tim) and Phyllis Bryden (John), and son Richard (JoAnn). He is survived by 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 1st from 10:30am-12:30pm at Kerr Brothers on Harrodsburg Road with Funeral services immediately following the visitation. Burial will be at Lexington Cemetery with a private service.
