Lexington, Kentucky - Merritt William Marrs, Jr., D.V.M., 76, passed away Jan. 15, 2023, in Indio, CA. A native of Lexington, KY he was born on November 12, 1946, to the late Merritt W. Marrs, SR and Edna Brumagen Marrs. He attended Riverside Military Academy from 1961-1964 and graduated with a degree in science. He attended the University of Kentucky from 1964-1969 where he was a proud member of Theta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity and graduated with a BS degree in animal science. He attended Ohio State University from 1969-1973 and graduated with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. After graduation from The Ohio State University, he served two years in the U.S. Army as a Captain in the Veterinary Medical Corp. stationed at Fort Knox, KY. Merritt practiced Veterinary Medicine all over the world but primarily in Kentucky. He was actively involved in many organizations in both Lexington, Kentucky and Palm Springs, California where he shared his residency. He was an avid UK sports person, primarily football and an avid fan of golf. He leaves to cherish his memory his fiancé, Karen Nielsen. He will be sorely missed by a host of friends and clients. His graveside service will be held at the Lexington Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will be held in March.
