May 2, 1944 - March 27, 2025

Frankfort, Kentucky - Frankfort, Ky. – Funeral services will be held Monday, April 7, 2025, for Michael Lee Harrod, former owner and operator of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home. Harrod passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 27, 2025. He was 80.

Harrod, who was a native of Franklin County, began his 55-year career as a licensed funeral director and embalmer at a young age at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home, where he served the community as the third generation. Harrod graduated from Franklin County High School in 1963, and graduated from Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in 1970.

Much of his lifetime was dedicated as a public servant. He served as the Franklin County Coroner for over 40 years. Additionally, he served on the Kentucky Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors.

He was a member of the Hiram Lodge #4 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Lexington, Knights Templar Frankfort Commandery No. 4, Oleika Shriners Lexington, Capital City Shrine Club, and First Christian Church.

Mike enjoyed going on hunting trips with his grandsons, boating with his family and friends, and spending time on the farm with his horses and cattle.

Survivors include his wife, Emma True Harrod, of Frankfort; daughter, Kimberly Dudgeon (Michael); son, William C. Harrod; grandson, William Chase Harrod; all of Frankfort; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Newton Harrod; mother, Doris Johnson Harrod; children, Michael and Katie; grandson, Nicholas Jacoby; sisters, Patricia Ann Goodman and Linda Tyson; and son-in-law, Steven Jacoby.

Masonic Rites will be observed at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home with Open Lodge at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Harrod Brothers Chapel with Dr. Bill Kincaid and Rev. Mike Napier officiating on Monday, April 7, 2025. Burial will follow in Frankfort Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday and from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Monday.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Chase Harrod, Scott Hoover, Mark Hoover, Patrick Goodman, William Tyson, and Eric True.

Flowers are welcome and expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home & Crematory.
