Phill G. Scott Obituary

Phill G. Scott
September 5, 1931 - November 5, 2021
Winchester , Kentucky - Phill G. Scott passed away at his home with his family by his side. Born in Huddy, Kentucky, Phill was the oldest of Mallie and Opal Scott's (Rutherford) three sons. He married the love of his life, Sally Blankenship, in 1958. They had two children, Shaunna and Brent, of whom he was very proud. He was a good man who earned the respect of his neighbors and co-workers.
A graduate of Belfry High School, Phill attended Pikeville Junior College. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. After attending Pikeville Junior College, he began his 35-year career at Bell Telephone Company, where he worked his way up from collecting coins at pay stations to commercial and then buildings & real estate management. His career took him from Pikeville to Winchester (1965-70) to Paintsville (1971-1980) to Corbin (1980) and back to Winchester, where he retired in 1990.
Phill played baseball in in high school, college, and service; he also played at the semi-pro level. He was an avid and competitive golfer throughout his life. He was active in the communities of Paintsville and Winchester, where he coached baseball and basketball and also served as a "band parent," band bus driver, and concession stand worker in support of his children's activities. At the age of 84, he ended his coaching career at Clark Middle School, where players nicknamed him "Coach Obi" (after the Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobe of the Star Wars franchise).
Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 63 years, Sally Scott (Blankenship), his brother Brett Scott (Frankfort), daughter Shaunna Scott (Keith Barton) of Bloomington, IN, son Brent Scott of Cayce, SC, granddaughter Hannah Barton, and great-granddaughters, Emma and Nola Barton (Bloomington, IN). He is also survived by a very special sister- and brother-in-law, Dixie Patterson (Georgetown) and Tom Blankenship (Bon Aqua, TN) as well as a niece, four nephews, and two grand nieces. He was predeceased by brother, Larry Scott (Frankfort).
His family wishes to thank Hospice East for their nurturing end-of-life care as well as the countless doctors and nurses who attended to Phill's health through his long, eventful life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on at 12 noon on Sat, Jan 8, 2022, at the Winchester Country Club's Blue Isle Restaurant on 410 Boone Ave in Winchester, KY. Masks are required.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations either to Hospice East or to Winchester Little League. Donations to Hospice East may be mailed to 407 Shoppers Dr., Winchester, KY, 40391. Donations to Winchester Little League may be mailed to PO Box 914, Winchester, KY, 40392.
