Ralph Petrey Obituary

LONDON - Dr. Ralph D. Petrey, 66, of London, KY; and formerly Corbin, KY and Cumberland, KY died Dec 10, 2011. He was born June 29, 1945 in the coal mining camp of Pruden, TN. Dr. Petrey was a 1970 graduate of the University Of Kentucky College Of Dentistry and a 1974 Graduate of the UK Orthodontic Residency Program after spending two years as Dental Director for the Federal Dental Program for Leslie, Knott, Perry and Letcher counties. Dr. Petrey served the communities of Southern and Southeastern Kentucky providing dental and orthodontic care for over 37 years. The legacy of his patient care carries on with his son, Joe and partner Dr. John K. Newcomb. Ralph was an avid pilot, classical guitar player, snow skier, and loved the lake. He also loved nothing more than his larger gatherings of family and friends for his spectacular Fourth of July show and Christmas gatherings. His love, care, and guidance will be greatly missed by his family, friends, employees, and patients. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and June Petrey of Corbin, KY. He is survived by his wife, Mary Linda; his son, Jason Petrey of Corbin, KY; son, Dr. Joe Petrey (wife, Jamie) of Somerset, KY; daughter, Joellen Petrey Knuckles (husband, Timmy) of London, KY; stepson, Josh Thomas of London, KY; brothers, John Stanley Petrey (wife, Sandra) of Louisville, KY; K.D. Petrey (wife, Kathy) of Cleveland Heights, OH, Carl Petrey (wife, Maggie) of Waco, TX, Dr. Rodney Petrey of Lexington, KY, Michael Petrey of Corbin, KY; sister, Jane Bowen (husband, Thomas "Mickey") of London, KY; and five grandchildren, Austin Petrey, Kendra Petrey, Kyler Petrey, Avah Bleau Thomas, and Clay Petrey. Funeral services will be held at Bowling Funeral Home in London. On Wed, Dec 13, 2011 at 1pm. Visitation will be Tue at 6pm at the funeral home. If you so choose, donations may be made in memory of Ralph to one of his favorite charities that provides care to underprivileged children worldwide with cleft lip and palate abnormalities, Smile Train who (www.smiletrain.org).

So sorry to hear of your loss. The Petrey family was a huge part of my childhood, no better people in the world. Thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow. Was just telling my daughter about going to the Petrey's house for hot chocolate when we went caroling with our church when Mike and I were kids. Wonderful people.

The loss of Ralph brings such a sadness to me.Growing up with Ralph,K.D.,John and Janie lights beautiful memories in my mind. We lived in the Springfield section of Cumberland and played hard along the banks of the river. Ralph and I were in the same class at the U.K.College of Dentistry. There are no better friends than the ones developed during a childhood together. My sincere condolences to Ralph's family. He was truly a wonderful guy.
