Randolph Scott Obituary

SCOTT Randolph, 71, husband of Becky Scott, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Born in Letcher County to the late Cleamond and Nellie Collier Scott. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and was the first member of his family to earn a college degree. He was the owner of Randolph Scott Insurance and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. Randolph was active in the 101 Club and the Harley Association. He devoted much of his time to charities, such as God's Pantry, Burgers and Bikes, Quest Farm, Gallilean Home, ALS and Lupus as well as Wounded Warriors. Dad (Papa) was more than just your average man. He was loving to his wife, kids, grandchildren and the people of this community. He was a strong and faithful follower of Christ and the most giving man you could find. He was a jokester and loved life. He was passionate about riding motorcycles and passed doing something he loved with all of his heart --rest in heaven, Pops! You will always have a special place in our hearts. In addition to his wife of 48 years, he is survived by three daughters: Kimberly (Brent) Ray of Kenova, WV, Heidi (Robert) Mullins of Lexington, Heather (Gatewood) Arnold of Lexington; three sisters: Anita Sue (Harold) Winchell, Katie (Wilbur) Powers and Nina (Wendell) Banks; five grandchildren: Haley Smith, Koral Ray, Bryanmarc Scott Ray, Gatewood J. and Stapleton Arnold. Visitation will be Saturday, May 10th from 2-6pm at Milward-Man O' War, 1509 Trent Blvd. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 12th at 1pm at Centenary United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to God's Pantry or KY Wounded Warrior Project. www.milwardfuneral.com

Words, there are not enough. We have been blessed by knowing Randy. A very humble and giving person. He could talk to anyone and was a GOD loving and family MAN. A gentlemans. Our HOG Chapter will never be the same.I am sure he is NOW standing in as DIRECTOR of the Rainbow Road in Heaven, Telling others to "stop burning daylight". Everytime I sew on a patch I will always think of you Randy. It was a privilege for our lives to cross paths. Ride free my brother. PAN HEADS UP!!

Mr Scott was my 6th grade teacher at Eolia Ele. (I think it was the first year he taught) but I remember how he wanted his students to learn and not just pass a grade. After lunch he always read to his class, which gave me a want to read. Later in life I found a copy of the book thatv he read to us. He always made learning an adventure. Of all the teachers I had through the years I always rembember Mr. Scott for his great teaching ability. Also the time he let me sit in his new car, a 1966 yellow Chevy SS.

I don't think I ever got the chance to meet you, but from what my mom tells me my grandpa Winfield Scott and your dad were brothers which made you and my dad Norman Scott first cousins. I've read the articles about you and I wish I would have got a chance to get to know, I'm sure you were a great man. I guess the love of Harley Davidsons runs in the Scott bloodline, my dad loved them and my brother dale and I both own Harley's. rest in peace maybe someday we'll all get to ride together in heaven.

I loved Mr. Scott. He was my sixth grade teacher at Nicholasville Elementary in 1973 and we were very close. After school everyday my best friend & I would play basketball against Randy & our principal Mr. Hall. I have many great memories. Everytime I saw him through the years he would remember me and ask about my family.

Heather and Heidi,
My heart hurts for your family. Your dad always had a ready smile and something funny to say! I know he is safe with Jesus now and I pray that gives you a measure of comfort! I have always loved you two and your family. Your kindness endeared me to the two of you when we were in high school. You always had something nice to say -your dad was a wonderful example for your family! I will keep you and your mom and family close to my heart. Love you both!

One last ride with my friend. I will miss his smile, his laugh, and his story telling. He seemed to always have a new friend to introduce me to. Making new friends and stores was a gift he had. We rode alot of miles , with the local HOG's we went on Sunday rides to different Dairy Queen's and the covered bridge's ride's.We also rode to Hall's on the river with the Thursday night riders. The burgers & Bikes was always fun. He always took time for a lot of charity 's like God's Pantry. I have three girls too,so we talked about our family up's and down's. There were more up's then down's. I met them today. He was not exaggerating, they were loving, beautiful, and so full of pride. He was a great friend and agent with Christian values!

Becky and family, I'm so very sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure to talk with Randy so many times at the Bluegrass Beemers. I'd stay there as late as I could many times knowing Randy would show up later and fill the room with stories and making us laugh. I had the honor to ride in the motorcycle procession and I could feel him smiling as hundreds of motorcycles engines were humming his tune. It was almost deafening, but so spectacular, like he was! He will be greatly missed. Ride on Randy!

I met Randolph many years ago at UK, and men, like Randolph, who love God and his fellowman, never die. They just move to a higher plane of existence, of which, according to Isaiah 64:4, mind cannot even conceive. Our physical bodies return to dust, from which they came, but our soul lives for all eternity. Randolph now has the opportunity to rejoice, because all his questions will be answered, and his reward will be without measure.

Randolph was a perfect example of what a good man should be. He was strong in faith, a devout family man, and a champion for those less fortunate than himself. His passion for motorcycling and his team were boundless. I wonder how many times Rupp Arena would have to filled, emptied, and filled again to contain all of the people Randolph has helped either directly or indirectly over the years. What a wonderful world we could be living in if everyone followed Randolph's example. Rest in peace, sir.
