Rebecca Maupin Obituary

BEREA - Rebecca Love Maupin, 92, widow of Whitney M. Maupin, died on Nov 7, 2007, in Berea, KY. Mrs. Maupin was born in Hymera, IN, the daughter of the late Thomas and Rachel Love. She graduated from Indiana State University with a degree in elementary education. Mrs. Maupin and her late husband were the owners of the former Coffee Cup Café on Chestnut Street in Berea for over 20 years. She ran a greenhouse and garden center, was a volunteer in the gift shop at Berea Hospital for over 25 years, and a member of the Berea Baptist Church for nearly 60 years. In addition, Mrs. Maupin was a member of the Berea Business and Professional Women's Club for over 30 years, making quilts and selling raffle tickets to benefit their Rudolph Auction at Christmas. In 1997, she was named Berea BPW Woman of the Year. Survivors include a daughter, Jennie Maupin Righeimer, River Forest, IL; two sons, Mitchell R. Maupin, Berea, and Kenneth W. Maupin (Josephine), Rockford, IL; a stepdaughter, Emily Bender (late Jay), Greenwood, IN; five grandchildren, Kenneth Maupin (Sarah), of Roscoe, IL, Karie Lerch (Mike), Kevin Maupin (Pamela), both of Machesney, IL, Kyle Maupin (Tracy) of Loves Park, IL, and Whitney Maupin of Berea. She is survived by eleven great grandchildren; and three nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers: Faye Love Taylor and Cedric Love, Hymera, IN, and Robert R. Love, College Park, MD. Funeral services will be on Nov 10, 2007, at 2pm at Lakes Funeral Home in Berea with the Rev. Kevin Slemp and Kenneth J. Maupin conducting the service. Burial will be in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers are Les Anderson, Larry Chadwell, Steve Connelly, Jimmy Durham, John Love, William Love, Thomas Love, Conley Saylor, Clifton Sparks, and Jerry Workman. Memorial contributions are suggested to the fund of the Berea Business and Professional Women's Club for local scholarships and child and spouse abuse center, c/o Peoples Bank, Attn: Linda Van Winkle, 419 Chestnut Street, Berea, KY 40403, Berea Baptist Church, or the charity of choice.
