HEDLUND, Dr. Richard Paul, 66, husband of Betty Terrill McEwan Hedlund, died Wed., Aug. 4, 2004 at his residence in Lexington. He was born in Havre, MT, Oct. 19, 1937 son of the late Wilmer Paul and Beth Kliest Hedlund of Minnesota and New York. He graduated from Massappeque High School, Long Island, NY, Mitchell College, Groton, CO, and the University of Kentucky where he received his AB degree, Masters degree and his Phd in Diplomatic History in 1976. Dr. Hedlund taught at the University of Kentucky , Ashland Community College for 32 years retiring in 1998. He spent three summers as a visiting Professor at Princeton University, Princeton, NJ, a member of Sigma Delta Chi, Phi Alpha Theata, Filson Club, American Historical Society, Southern Historical Society, Diplomatic Society, Kentucky Civil War Roundtable, on the Board of Directors Friends of Kentucky Public Archives, Inc., Ashland Estate of Henry Clay. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and he was honored with The Great Teacher Award from the University of Kentucky in 1976. He is a member of Tates Creek Christian Church and a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Ashland. Surviving besides his wife of 37 years are two step-daughters, Diana Lynn McEwan and Janet Lee Hovekamp and her husband David, three grandchildren; Matthew and Rebecca Hovekamp, Alexis frost, one great grandson, Isiah Hovekamp, a brother, Robert Wilmer Hedlund and his wife Rose of Dallas, Texas, two brothers in law, Jack Terrill Jr., and his wife, Becky, Ira Carlos Terrill and six nieces and nephews, including Scott Terrill. Our gratitude and love to Dr. David Blake and Dr. Timothy Winchester and caregiver Bob Lock. Funeral services will be 2:30 pm Fri. in the Lexington Cemetery conducted by Dr. Brad Walden and Rev. James Walters. Casketbearers will be David Hovekamp, Matthew Hovekamp, Jack Terrill Jr., Carlos Terrill, Scott Terrill and Enero Romero. Friends may call from 1-2 pm Fri. at the W.R.
