Richard PROCTOR Obituary

PROCTOR Richard Carlin "Rick", 59, loving husband, brother and son, died peacefully Thursday morning at his home in Lexington. He was preceded in death by his father, D.L. Proctor, Jr., DVM and his brother, Thomas Howard Proctor. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Jennie Mae Carroll Proctor. He is survived by his mother, Alice McCabe Proctor, brothers Dr. D.L. (Laura) Proctor, III, Michael (Kathe), and Dr. Patrick Alan (Janie) Proctor. He is survived by two sisters, Mary Louise (Karl) Semancik, and Alice Celeste Berry. Surviving nieces are Dr. Melonie Celeste Proctor and Alyssa Danielle Proctor. Surviving nephews are Dr. Patrick Alan Proctor, Jr., Dr. D.L. Proctor, IV, Christopher McNeill Proctor, Karl Anthony Semancik, Jr. and Michael Wayne Berry. Surviving stepsons are John Paul Horton and Tommy (Stefanie) Horton. Surviving step grandchildren are Joseph, Ashlyn and Noah Horton. Rick was born May 25, 1952 in Lexington. He was Student Council President at Bryan Station in '69-'70. His many life-long friends from BSHS loved and respected him. Rick was an active member of the Bryan Station Alumni Association and could always be counted on when it came time to plan Class of '70 reunions. Rick graduated from UK with a degree in Horticulture and had a knack for caregiving for patients at Eastern State Hospital. In the '80s, Rick moved to Ahoskie, NC to work with his brother Pat in Pat's veterinary practice. There, Rick met and married Jennie Mae Carroll and was an instant hit with Jennie's family in the Norfolk, VA area. Rick and Jennie later came back to Central Kentucky. Once again, Rick's love of animals allowed him to excel at working with brood mares in the thoroughbred horse industry. At home, his green thumb was legendary; always growing and sometimes reviving plants for the clan. Rick was the poet laureate of the family and loved to publish the clan's annual picture laden calendar. UK has lost one of its truest of true blue fans. Family and friends are invited to a memorial gathering to be held at Milward-Broadway on Sat, July 2nd from 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations to the Lexington Humane Society. www.milwardfuneral.com

To Rick's family and friends. I just found out about Rick's passing and I am shocked. I am an alumni of BSHS and knew Rick from school and the class reunions he would organize. He was an awesome guy. How could such a lovable guy like he was be taken still early in life. He was a great guy with loads of friends. My sympathy and condolences to the family. He will be sadly missed. God bless.

To Jennie and all of Rick's family and friends: I am so saddened to hear of Rick's passing (I just found out this morning). I always looked forward to seeing Rick and Jennie at the class reunions, where I discovered Rick had become such a kind and gentle soul, a man with a beautiful spirit. I will miss him whenever the class of '70 gets together from now on. I hope you don't mind that I added a picture I took of Rick from the July 2009 class reunion.

Rick will be sorely missed, but the BS class of 70, committee meetings and annual gatherings, will never be the same. He was one of a kind!
