Ruby Isgrig
November 28, 1923 - January 31, 2026
Paris, Kentucky - Ruby Louise Johnson Isgrig passed away quietly at Bourbon Heights with family at her bedside on Saturday, January 31, 2026, having attained the age of 102. She was a housewife, gardener, antique collector, loving mother and wife of David Isgrig. Ruby was born on November 28, 1923, in Cynthiana, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Nannie VanBuren and Albert Johnson, and a lifelong resident of Paris, Kentucky. In addition to her parents, and her husband, she was the last of thirteen children, all having preceded her in death. Her sisters, Thelma Marie Gooden, Dorothy May McNash, Allie Sharon Kerns, Iona Bell Johnson, Hazel Metcalf Burberry, Mary Bessie Fulton, Lillian Leeds Lafrana, Ruth Virginia Corbin; brothers, James Foreman Johnson, Virgil Emery Johnson, Jessie Gaines Johnson, and Albert Lee Johnson.
She is survived by her daughter, Wilma Isgrig (Tom) Hammons; a granddaughter, Katie Isgrig Hammons (Brian) Brewer; and a great-granddaughter, Alma Ruth. Also surviving are many beloved nieces and nephews.
The highlight of her year was the September family reunions at the old home place on Silas Road. She loved spending time with her family and catching up with their lives during the previous year. She would provide plates of homemade candies and was known for her candy making skills. Her passion was finding bargains at yard sales and flea markets. She brought home many pieces of antique furniture needing restoration as her husband shared the love of old things needing some love. He was very good at restoring them even if overwhelmed at times. She loved U.K. basketball and would review the plays with friends, post-game. She raised a large garden with her husband and shared the results with anyone who happened to stop by for a visit. They would go home with bags of whatever vegetable or fruit that happened to be in season. The Isgrig farm on Ruddles Mill Road was her home, and she frequently took long walks in the evening, enjoying the beauty of the Kentucky land, and loved having cookouts around the campfire after her brisk hike. She also organized and prepared family dinners for the holidays and family get togethers. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She will be missed by her family who have many wonderful memories to cherish for their lifetime. Rest in peace Ruby.
