Ruth Chrisman

1925 - 2014

PIKEVILLE Ruth Lee Perry Chrisman, 89, of Pikeville, KY, passed away Monday, December 29, 2014 at home. Ruth was born in South Carolina on August 5, 1925, to Jefferson Langston and Maude McDade Perry. She graduated from Liberty High School and attended Winthrop College. On June 19, 1945, Ruth married Chuck Chrisman and moved to Pikeville. She was a devoted homemaker, wife and mother. Her dedication to family was apparent in her unending care of and attention to her husband, three children, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Ruth was a 69-year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Pikeville, which she attended faithfully and served in many capacities over the years. Her involvement in the Pikeville Concert Association and her bridge clubs covered many decades. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles B. "Chuck" Chrisman, who died on June 20, 2004; two sisters, Betty Richbourg and Hazel Bradley; and a brother, Langston Perry. Ruth is survived by two sons, Charles B. "Chris" Chrisman, Jr. (Sharon) of Lexington, KY, and Hal P. Chrisman (Kim) of Ann Arbor, MI; one daughter, Carolyn "Cissy" Leatherman (Kenny) of Pikeville; 10 grandchildren, Elizabeth Leatherman of Lexington, KY, David Leatherman (Carrie) of Chelmsford, MA, Matthew Chrisman (Jean) of Edinburgh, Scotland, Sarah Gipe (Alex) of Louisville, KY, Charlie Chrisman (Kate) of Oakland, CA, Lainie Chrisman of Chicago, IL, Katie Chrisman and Molly Chrisman of Springboro, OH, and Ashley Chrisman and Morgan Chrisman of Ann Arbor, MI; and her five great-grandchildren, Hazel and Owen Leatherman, Libby and Lucy Gipe and Dylan Chrisman. She is also survived by her sister, Marianne Wingo (John) of Blacksburg, VA, and her brother-in-law, Norman Chrisman, Jr., of Lexington, KY. Funeral services will be held at 1pm Friday, January 2, 2015, in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bill Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Park under the direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville. Visitation is from 12 - 1pm Friday in the church sanctuary.
