Stu was my "step"Grandpa and I have many great memories of him from when I was a kid. Me and my brothers(Myles and Carlos Godby) used to love to have overnights at their house because Grandpa Stu would always do something funny and he let us stay up late and watch Star Trek and Saturday Night Live. He would always treat us to ice cream at Ron's Dairy Bar and would go for long "adventure walks" around the town. I got to see him a few years ago when he was with one of his many nature groups here in New Mexico. It was kind of funny hearing him trying to say Spanish words with his Massachusett's accent. My husband Jim and I had him over for dinner and talked him into staying over at our house instead of in a tent at the campground. He was fascinated with the Sandhill cranes that find refuge here in Los Lunas every winter. He was a great man and will be missed by many.

Stuart, is one of the great environmentalist of our time. He did so much you couldn't keep up with him. I will always remember him leading hikes to as he put it (Stuart's Arch) in the Red River Gorge. Stuart was a great man and a friend to all.

To the family of Stu. I worked with him at TI and he was very nice. The main thing that comes to mind, is his running. When we would be coming through Versailles to work, Stu would be running up the street, very early in the mornings.

My sympathy to each of you.

Stu Butler was a good friend when I worked in Versalies in 1968 and 69, and then on my frequent trips to Versailles from Attleboro to conduct training. Stu had probably one of the most positive attitudes of any person I have ever and met and worked with. The world has benefitted because he was here with us, and now he is with the angels.

A kindler and gentler spirit there never was. Stuart was about the first one I sucked into going caving with me when I moved to Lerxington in 1989. He led me into the sewers on Versilles. What better place to go that that! I will miss him.
