Sylvia Magoun Obituary
November 11, 1934 - July 27, 2025
Lexington, Kentucky - Sylvia Layne Magoun passed away Sunday July 27, 2025 in Lexington, KY. She was the daughter of the late Ballard Aaron and Effie Carter Layne. She was born in Pike County but called Lexington/ Nicholasville, KY area her home during her adult years.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, P.C. "Mac" Magoun; one sister, Nola Layne Deskins; one brother, Walter Layne; one niece, Nancy Holderman and two nephews, Thomas and Randall Deskins.
Sylvia is survived by two nieces, Nona Sanders and Wilma Dean Trout, as well as two nephews, Richard Layne and Clinton Layne.
After a short nursing career, Sylvia became a Registered Radiologic Technologist and later became a Certified Nuclear Technologist. She graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelors in Health Science.
She retired from Veterans Affairs Administration Medical Center after 33 years as Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
She was a member of the Baptist Faith for more than 50 years and belonged to the Rosemont Baptist Church. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Funeral and visitation services will be held at Milward Funeral Directors- 391 Southland Drive on Friday August 1, 2025. Visitation begins at 11:00 AM, and the funeral service is at 12:00 Noon with interment following at the Lexington Cemetery. www.milwardfuneral.com
