What a sad shock to find Verla's smiling face in this morning's obituaries. We graduated from high school together and I had the pleasure of seeing Verla at a couple of reunions in the years following graduation. She ALWAYS had a big smile on her face, loved to laugh, and brought nothing but optimism and sunshine to us all. The vivid memory that I will never shake as long as I'm breathing is of a big gaggle (12 to 16) of nutty high school girls, all seniors, gathered in that wonderful, big back room of the James home on Woodford Avenue, trying to learn how to do a synchronized "kick-dance," Rockettes-style, for the senior play. Night after night we'd show up at Verla's house and giggle hysterically for 2 or 3 hours . . . . not much 'learning' or 'dancing' got done, but NO ONE in the senior play had more fun than we did!

My heart goes out to Verla's family, and I pray that God will give you the comfort, strength, and peace that only He can provide at such a time. She was a gem, and she will be sorely missed.

With sincere sympathy,
