Jeffrey D. Shimer

Jeffrey Sugarloaf Key - Shimer D. Shimer Jeffrey Shimer, the son of Robert and Joanne (Meister) Shimer was raised in Broomall, Pa. During a summer break from college, he worked construction and decided to choose a trade. He joined the local IBEW 654, working on large commercial projects in the Phila. Area. Then spent a lifetime using his skills and time helping others.

Upon arriving in KW in 1987, he helped renovate the historic Weintraub Grocery, on Solares Hill, into an island apartment. Soon after, he began contracting as Old Town Electric, Inc. Over his long and successful career of over 35 yrs in the Keys, he had many famous clients (including Jimmy Buffett), but treated everyone the same. With twinkly, smiling eyes and a great laugh, he was always kind, positive and encouraging. As a problem solver, he focused on possibilities, not limitations. His glass was always half-full.

He loved time on the water, playing guitar, watching good action movies and Rock & Roll turned up loud. He was an accomplished musician/singer/songwriter, and an amazing cook. No better friend or neighbor.

He passed away on June 26th at his Sugarloaf home. He is survived by his sister, and will be deeply missed by many heartbroken friends, colleagues and neighbors. A private memorial is being planned.
