Dennis O'Donnell Obituary
Dennis O'Donnell, known to all who knew and loved him as "Da", passed away on September 23rd, 2025, at his home in Springfield, Oregon at the age of 82. He was surrounded by his family, as they lovingly held and prayed him peacefully into the presence of God. A devoted husband of 60 years, a dedicated father of eight children, a doting grandfather of 20, and great-grandfather of seven, Dennis was the foundation and proud patriarch of this expansive Irish family. He lived his life with faith, humility, generosity, and a spirit of service that deeply impacted his family and community.
Born on September 13th, 1943, in Pasadena, California to Elton and Gertrude O'Donnell, he was the first born of six children and brought that same spirit of servant leadership and gentle guidance to his younger siblings, Janet, Karen, Daniel, Katie and Colleen- all of whom adored their big brother.
As a young adult, Dennis moved to Oregon. He later met his future wife, Jan, where she was a student at Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Eugene. They married on September 11th, 1965, and embarked on a lifelong partnership that he was determined to celebrate the 60th anniversary of. Stubborn and proud, Da fought with strength and faith, and reached this milestone of marriage, with his wife and children by his side, before passing.
Committed and united in marriage, focused and centered in faith, family was not far behind. The same vows that were a bedrock for this marriage, became building blocks for "Da" and he became the father of, and is survived by, all eight of his children. We are Maureen, Colleen, Timothy (Emily), Patrick (Laura), Jimmy, Megan, Bridget, and Brendan (Monica). We are proud sons and daughters of an incredible man who poured everything into raising children in a home grounded in love and faith.
Dennis worked for over 50 years as a sales representative, traveling throughout Oregon and lighting up dental offices with his wit and humor. He had an ability to connect with staff that went far beyond a simple transaction. Doors were opened for him, laughter was abundant with him, stories were shared with him, and his success was a result of his authenticity.
Dennis was a man whose life was defined by his deep and abiding Catholic faith. A long-time parishioner of St. Paul and St. Mary's Catholic Church, he lived out the teachings of Jesus in every aspect of his life. He loved being a part of the St. Mary's Choir, and dedicated time both in and out of the church in his walk with Christ.
As a proud Irishman, Da traveled to Ireland three times. It was these roots that steadied not only him, but all those who loved and knew him. He traveled, he fished, he loved football, food and family. He kept his Irish Catholic heritage at the heart of who he was, and his heart beats on in all of us. You are our beloved Da… Mo Chuisle Mo Chroi!
