Joseph Truax Obituary

Joseph "Joe" James Truax August 16, 1962 – June 29, 2025 Joseph James Truax (Joe) passed away June 29, 2025 in Lebanon, Oregon. He was born August 16, 1962 to Joseph L. Truax and Imogene P. (Sherman) Truax in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The family moved to Lebanon, Oregon in June 1963. Joe was part of the first class organized in Lebanon for developmentally disabled children in the latter 1960's. He thrived being able to go to school and learn. Vie Carruth was the teacher who taught him to read, write, do simple arithmetic, and had a special place in his life. Joe was very proud of being a Lebanon Warrior and played on the special basketball team of the early 1980's, graduating with a modified diploma in June 1983. Joe's family and church played a big role in his life. He was especially proud of the day he was baptized, and helped to serve in the church. He was so happy when a class was formed for him and other special needs adults. He also invited anyone he came into contact with at work or home to come to his church. He loved going to concerts, the state fair, hockey games, and on vacations with family. He loved all things Disney. The family made many trips to Disneyland and Disney World, and even a Disney Cruise. Another highlight was going to Israel and being baptized in the Jordan River, like Jesus. Joe had, in his words "four lovable sisters" (of whom three survive). He is survived by sisters Carol Truax, Patty (Cody) Crenshaw, Susie (Howard) Otta, and brother-in-law Don Robertson, nephews Ben (Lisa) Summers, Nathan (Melody) Otta, Greg (Kami) Otta, and Ethan Crenshaw; niece Kim (Brett) Tarrant, and eight great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Lois Robertson. He had some people in his life that were extra-special to him: Makayla Snyder and Valerie Zuloaga, along with others who brought joy and a peacefulness into his final months. The family appreciates everyone's efforts. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, July 18, 2025 at Southside Christian Church. Private burial will be at the Lebanon IOOF Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Southside Christian Church, Lebanon, Oregon.

Joe will always be remembered for his Sunday hugs and a smile that lit up the entire sanctuary. I've known Joe since 1967 and that's been a lot of Sunday smiles ( except the time I lived elsewhere). He was a warm Church greeter and will be there to greet us when we graduate to heaven. His sisters are to be commended for all they did to advocate for Joe and enrich his life along with other Special need individuals in our community, and especially at Southside Christian Church.
