Maureen Hammond Obituary

Mom loved the water, animals and kids. She was a horrible cook but made the best Chicken enchiladas on the planet. She loved her parents, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, brothers, and George W Bush. She was quick to spot a butterfly or hummingbird. She crashed her school-bus into a church awning. She loved The Rolling Stones and Tom Petty. She was a heck of a frisbee player. She spent most of her life helping others working in special education at the Eugene School District 4J, South Hills Rehabilitation and Allison Park Christian Daycare. She loved supreme pizza, Hillary Clinton, Little House on the Prairie and long walks on the beach. You could always find her dancing at the Saturday Market - she was one Hell of a Dancer. She is survived by her Grandchildren Kaylea, Kayla, and Kalib, her Great Grandchildren Blakely, and Harlow. Her sons Jess and Hunter. Sisters Joy, Sue, Tere and Mel, Brother Mike. She was preceded in Death by her Brother Tom and Parents Orrin and Pauline Hammond.

As an older sister, I have so many memories....from the moment she arrived from the hospital in January, 1950...a particularly cold winter in Ohio that year. What a spark of personality! A mix of strength and fragility. She always loved a party...and anytime family came together, it WAS a party! We loved to play games together...from monopoly to basketball. We loved to sing and dance together. I loved when, as a bride, she took the mike and sang "My baby don´t buy me pearls" with all the feeling and confidence of a pro! She loved our Mom and Dad and she loved her two sons with such fervor. And Jess really captured her appreciation for simple pleasures, nature, flowers and butterflies. As for cooking....I remember her first attempt at Kraft mac & cheese. Inedible...since she didn´t boil the macaroni before mixing and baking. I am so sad to have her gone too soon but with a hope that she´s reunited with our parents and we´ll meet again.
