Wesley Moreland Obituary

Wesley Moreland, age 92, of Pine Island, passed away on August 28, 2025. He was born on July 10, 1933 in West Concord, MN, and raised in Pine Island, MN. Wes joined the Navy after high school in 1951 and saw the world as an aircraft mechanic aboard the USS Tarawa during the Korean War. He later graduated from college with a theology degree and became a pastor, and later served as Chaplain of the Rochester VFW. He was known for his skill and love of building small sailboats and airplanes, and always enjoyed the simple pleasures of life-especially an ice-cold glass of milk, bluegrass music, pickled herring and garden-grown tomatoes. In his later years he traveled, visiting over 70 countries, many with his late wife, Carol. He was also active in many local and regional organizations and fellowshipped with the saints at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Pine Island. Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Irene Moreland, and wives, Charlotte and Carol. He is survived by his sister, Joan Swarthout; daughters, Sarah Coward and Anne Kahl; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Pine Island on Friday, September 5 @ 10:30 a.m, luncheon to follow. Interment will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston.
