Miriam Christine Harrelson Donnelly, 93, widow of James F. Donnelly, Jr., passed away at her residence on June 6, 2025.
Born on July 2, 1931, in Lancaster, South Carolina, she was the beloved daughter of Francis Wilson Harrelson and Evelyn Lucille Walters Harrelson. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two daughters, Susan E. Donnelly and Alice D. Whitlock.
Miriam was a faithful servant of Suttons Methodist Church, where she became a member at the age of six. Her love for the church only deepened over the years, and she found great joy in serving wherever she was needed. She held numerous roles within the church, including trustee, president, and historian. One of her greatest legacies was her dedication to teaching Sunday School, a role she embraced for more than 50 years. Being at church was her greatest passion.
Miriam earned her master's degree and devoted her life to education. She began her teaching career in St. Stephen but spent the majority of her time at Macedonia High School in Berkeley County, where she served as both an educator and guidance counselor for more than 40 years. She was a proud member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an organization for women educators.
In addition to her professional and spiritual commitments, Miriam was a dedicated member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rosemary Chapter, where she served as a past Worthy Matron.
Miriam is survived by her loving daughter, Melanie D. Brooks (Butch) of Moncks Corner; son in law, Bruce Whitlock of Bonneau, four cherished grandchildren: Charles Whitlock of Andrews, Art Brooks (Johnna) of Moncks Corner, Catherine Whitlock of Conway, and Melissa Tompkins of Longs; and five beloved great-grandchildren: Daisy Brooks, Sutton Whitlock, Bentley Tompkins, Ellie Brooks, and Tripp Brooks.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Suttons Methodist Church with Rev. Miss Wyllene Skipper and Rev. Timothy McKenzie officiating. The family will receive visitors at the Andrews Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
