Edith Watman Gintis

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Edith Watman Gintis, 92, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, formerly of Kinston, died peacefully at home August 28, 2014. She is survived by her son, Dr. Warren Gintis and his wife Marsha, of Cary, N.C.; her daughter, Julie Gintis White of Atlanta, Ga.; her sister, Betty Abrams of Delray Beach, Fla.; and her adored grandchildren, Haley, Drew, Carly and Audrey. Edith was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dr. Daniel Gintis, who died September 8, 2008. Born and raised in the Bronx, N.Y., Edith was the daughter of the late Ida and Aaron Watman. After meeting in the Catskill Mountains, she married Daniel Gintis and moved with him to Kinston, N.C. where she lived for 40 years. After Daniel's retirement from DuPont, Edith spent the past 20 years in Delray Beach and most recently, Ft. Lauderdale. Edith cherished her children and grandchildren. She had many wonderful and lifelong friends. Edith was an avid, accomplished bridge player for over six decades, and achieved the "life master" status for her master points accumulation in local, regional, and national sanctioned tournaments. As recently as July 4, Edith won a big duplicate bridge tournament in Pompano Beach. In addition to bridge and spending time with friends and family, Edith was an avid reader, loved the New York Times crossword puzzle, and cheering on the North Carolina Tar Heels where both of her children went to college A gathering to celebrate Edith's life will be held on Sunday, August 3, at the home of her sister, Betty Abrams, 1405 NW 27th Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33445.
