Mrs. Gintis, Julie and all,
Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. Your family has meant so much to me my ENTIRE life...from the kitchen conversations between my mother and Edith that I witnesses as a child to now living down the street from Julie and sharing our 'Kinston' ties...
Take time for and take care of yourselves.

I was so sorry to learn of Dan's passing. The Gintis family looms large in my childhood. I know my father counted Dan as a great friend. And I always looked forward to visits from, and to, Dan and Edith, even after we left NC.

Dear Warren, Marsha, Julie, Edith, and grandchildren,
I'll always remember Dan for his quick wit and the twinkle in his eye. I never recall seeing him angry, though Warren and Julie might have deserved it once or twice. He was truly a good man, and I am thankful for his long and fruitful life, the privilege of knowing him, and the wonderful family that he leaves to carry on.

Dear Edith,
I am so sorry to hear about Dan's death. For the many years I worked with him, I always saw him as both an unusually talented scientist and a fine human. He stood at the top of the class in both. Wise and thoughtful. I wish you the very best as you deal with this "hole" in your life. Clarice and I just celebrated our 55th year so we know how much shared life this is. Clarice and I send love and the very best to you and family.

Warren,
We were so sad to hear about your dad.
Please know that our thoughts are with you and your family. To honor your father's legacy and to show our gratitude for his patriotism to our country we would like to place a wreath in his memory either at his grave or at a site of your choosing in conjunction with the Wreaths Across America project which honors veterans across American every December. We will talk about this with you in more detail in a couple of weeks to see if this is something you would like to do.
Morrie Schwartz was right in the book Tuesdays with Morrie when he stated that our loved ones never really leave us when they die because we have the memories, the love that was created, and the feelings that were created during their lifetime. From our perspective, the biggest legacy your father left was you. Knowing you makes us realize that your father must have been quite a man.
All our love to you, Marsha, the kids, your mom, your sister, and all who loved your dad.

Thank you for thinking of my family at this sad time in our lives. We really appreciate it. My father requested not to have a formal ceremony, no flowers and if anyone wanted to honor him, do something to help a veteran or donate to any hospice. He also told me we are losing WW II veterans at the rate of 1100 per day in this country. It didn't mean a lot to me until Monday.
