Catherine Giunta Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smith Funeral Home - Mantua on Mar. 28, 2026.
Catherine Marie Giunta (née Sweigart), 42, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Catherine was born on June 18, 1983, in Washington Township, to parents, Robert L. Sweigart and Kim M. Mulholland. She grew up in Haddonfield and Cherry Hill, NJ, and graduated from Cherry Hill High School West, Class of 2001, where she first met her husband, and continued her studies at Cabrini College and Temple University.

For many years, Catherine served as a caregiver for her late grandmother (Mary Sweigart) and she proudly worked alongside her husband, Michael, in their contracting business. She devoted her time to raising awareness for Bohring-Opitz Syndrome (BOS), in support of their son, James, and volunteered with Broad Street Ministries. She thrived in athletics, playing college field hockey and participating in 5K races in support of causes dear to her heart.

She was endlessly creative and resourceful. She enjoyed attending concerts and festivals, especially the Lights Festival, and creating beautiful lasting memories with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Giunta; son, James Michael Giunta; mother, Kim M. Mulholland of Wenonah, NJ; father, Robert L. Sweigart of Avalon, NJ; mother and father-in-law, Debbie and Craig Giunta of Blackwood, NJ. The eldest sibling to brother, Samuel R. Sweigart of Philadelphia, PA; and sister, Brittany E. (née Sweigart) and husband Alex Beyer of Barrington, NJ. She was the loving Aunt to Mica Sweigart and Ethan Beyer.

She will be deeply missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 9:30am - 10:45am at the Church of the Incarnation, 240 Main Street, Mantua, NJ 08051. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am. There will be a private interment at Wenonah Cemetery at a later date.

Please continue to honor Catherine through daily acts of kindness and in lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made towards the ASXL Rare Research Endowment (ARRE) Foundation. Click here to donate online.
