George Loftin Obituary

KINSTON - George Edwin Loftin, 89, died Friday, January 9, 2009, at home. The Memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2009, at Gordon Street Christian Church. He was a beloved husband of 54 years, cherished father, and adored grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Etta Lou Willson Loftin; children Evelyn Attayek and husband Joe, of Greensboro, Cathy Buchanan and husband Dale, of Charlotte, Edwin Loftin and wife Nancy, of Titusville, Florida; seven grandchildren, Pete, Sarah, and Maggie Attayek, Alex and Will Buchanan, Lee and Ray Loftin; sisters Sarah Adams and husband Milton, of Wilson, Eleanor Jones; and sister-in-law, Hope Loftin. He was a graduate of Atlantic Christian College, a WWII Army Air Corp Veteran, an elder emeritus at Gordon Street Christian Church, and a 10th generation Lenoir County farmer. He served 25 years as a Lenoir Community College Trustee and worked 25 years at FCX. He served his community and church faithfully in many capacities. Please know we are sharing in your grief in the loss of Mr. Loftin. He was such a loving and gentle man. I will never forget the time he took to answer the many questions of a child.
