Henry Parker Obituary

KINSTON | It is with sadness in our hearts and tears in our eyes that we announce the passing of Henry Samuel Parker. Henry was born on December 12, 1957, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Parker, Jr. He attended the Kinston City Schools, where he was active in many sports and earned his K letter for his jacket, of which he was very proud. His junior year in high school was spent at St Christopher's School in Richmond, VA. Henry was married to Cecelia Bynum on June 10, 1979, and they had two beautiful daughters, Donna Lynn Parker and Samantha Michelle Parker. He loved his daughters very much and was very proud of the goals they reached and all success they achieved. He was looking forward to Donna's wedding in October. Henry worked with Edwards Funeral Home, Burkett Dental Lab, his own carpet cleaning business and King's Restaurant. In his short years of semi-retirement, he enjoyed driving senior citizens to appointments both in and out of town. Henry never met a person he did not like. He could "carry on a conversation with a lamp post." He loved cooking, especially barbequing pigs. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and for a term served as an elder. He was a loyal member and truly loved his church, as he stated often that he had to go to Sunday service to keep his life in balance. In addition to his daughters, Mr. Parker is survived by his mother, Frances Carr Parker and two sisters, Nancy Lucinda Parker and France "Honey" Parker Marlowe. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Samuel Parker, and a sister Holly Eleanor Parker. A celebration of his life and Witness to the Resurrection will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2 PM at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel (enter off Darby Street). In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials made to First Presbyterian Church, 2101 N. Herritage St., Kinston NC 28501-2221, Children's Home Society of N.C. or Kinston-Lenoir County SPCA. The family will receive friends following the service and at the home 1202 Harding Ave. Kinston. Arrangements are with Edwards Funeral Home. Sign the guest book at Kinston.com.

So very sorry for the loss of Henry. He was indeed a very likable friendly man who never met a stranger. He was a special neighbor and friend when we moved next door to him and Cee and Donna in 1988. We enjoyed cookouts and just general good neighbor times for several years...including the birth of his second daughter Samantha. My thoughts and love go out to the entire family.
