Imogene Casey

KINSTON | Imogene Sutton Casey, 87, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, September 19, 2015. Imogene was born in Wayne County on December 15, 1927, to Lloyd D. Sutton and Viola Parker Sutton. She graduated from the Lenoir Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and practiced as an RN. She was an active partner with her husband in a number of business ventures. She was an active and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Kinston for over 60 years. She also served on the Westminster Townhome Association Board. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years, William Thomas Casey; her brothers, John T. Sutton and James A. Sutton; and her sister, Gibbie Sutton Creech. As a mother, she was absolutely loving and completely devoted to her three daughters, all who survive her, Deborah C. Prater (Leon) of Cary, Eugenia C. Briley (Brantley) of Kinston and Carmen C. Bruce (Cam) of Nags Head. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Richard Brian Prater, Loren Prater Ruark, Jay Thomas Briley, Caroline Briley Roberts, William Iain Bruce and Thomas Grandin Bruce. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Lloyd Meyer of Kinston, Annie Laura Casey of Goldsboro, Linda Foss and husband Jimmie Carr of La Grange, Jackie Price and husband Tim, of Seven Springs; and sister-in-law Joyce Sutton. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, at the First Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. A private burial will take place at a later time.
