Norma Howerton Obituary

Norma G. Howerton, age 92, of Hurdland, MO, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2025, in the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, MO.
She was born April 29, 1933, in Brashear, MO the daughter of Norman Gustave and Vivian Guy Ornes.
She was united in marriage to Delbert Lee Howerton, on July 7, 1950 in Brashear, MO and he preceded her in death on August 28, 2005. Norma was also preceded in death by her parents, step mother Gladys Ornes, an infant sister Anita Ornes, and a son-in-law Glenn Thomas Gooch.
Surviving are four children, Shirley Gooch of Hartford, IA, Delberta (David) Buettner of Waterloo, IL, Jackie Howerton of Hurdland, MO, and Lee (Sara) Howerton of Hurdland, MO, three brothers, Allen (Kathy) Ornes of Florida, Marvin (Terri) Ornes of Colorado Springs, CO, and Harold (Lynn) Ornes of Aiken S.C., ten grandchildren, Adrian Gooch, Emily Gooch, Andrew Buettner, Jessica Buettner, Jennifer Hall, Brent Franke, Kelly Howerton, Suzanne Evans, Alex Howerton and Tage Howerton; eleven great grandchildren Dominic Gooch, Layla Abalo, Theodore Herweck, Arlos Herweck, Ryan Hall, Tucker Hall, Zowie Franke, Zaine Franke, Makhi Cox, Monique Howerton and Calvin Howerton, and several nieces and nephews.
Norma attended Brashear Schools. She and her husband were engaged in farming south of Hurdland and lived on the same farm all their life. She enjoyed gardening and was a 4-H leader. Norma was the head cook for Hurdland and Knox County consolidated Elementary Schools for 32 years. She attended Brashear United Brethren Church as a child. In Norma's earlier adult life she attended the Locust Hill Church and later joined the Brashear Community Bible Church where she was active in the women's and children's ministries .Most of all she enjoyed the time spent with her family.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 2025 at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 29, 2025 in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Pastor Donny Powell will officiate the services. Burial will b e in I.O.O.F. Cemetery Hurdland, MO. Music will be provided by Darlene Goucher and a Eulogy will be read by John Garlock.
Casket bearers will be Adrian Gooch, Andrew Buettner, Brent Franke, Alex Howerton, Dominic Gooch, and Ryan Hall.
Memorials in memory of Norma Howerton are suggested to the Brashear Community Bible Church, I.O.O.F. Cemetery Hurdland or Hospice of Northeast MO. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 408 East Morgan St., Edina, MO 63537
