Ronald Heller Obituary

Ronald R. Heller, 82, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away on November 19, 2024.
Ron was born on February 4, 1942, in Watertown, Wisconsin, to Harley and Viola Heller, who preceded him in death.
Ron graduated from Watertown High School and a broadcast academy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
A devoted family man, Ron was married to the love of his life, Kathleen Heller, for over 60 years. Kathleen passed away in July 2020, and Ron cherished the many decades they spent together building a loving family.
Ron dedicated his career to the world of television and radio, working in several cities, including Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Kankakee, Illinois; Marquette, Michigan; Kirksville, Missouri; and Quincy, Illinois. He was a respected journalist and leader in the field, serving as News Director at KTVO in Kirksville from 1971 to 1986 and at KHQA in Quincy from 1986 to 1996. His passion for storytelling and commitment to integrity left a lasting mark on his colleagues, the young journalists he trained and the communities he served.
Beyond his professional life, Ron enjoyed gardening and spent years as a partner in a shiitake mushroom farm near Martinstown, Missouri. His love for nature and dedication to the land brought him much joy and fulfillment.
Ron was the father of four children: Dawn (Jeff) Neil of Canton, Missouri; Donald (Che're) Heller of Mexico, Missouri; Duane (Britainy) Heller of Crawley, West Virginia; and Daryl (Julie) Heller of Salt Lake City, Utah. His legacy of love and kindness extends to seven grandchildren: Trent, Jayson, Drew, Brennan, Laith, Alexandra and Hannah. As well as four great-grandchildren: Olivia, Laith, Rose and Gavin. Also surviving is brother-in-law, Roger Plate of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; one sister-in-law, Karen Bresnehan and husband Dennis of Dousman, Wisconsin and brother-in-law, Jack Plate of Racine, Wisconsin along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Ron's warmth, generosity, and dedication to his family and career will be deeply missed. His memory will be a guiding light for all who knew and loved him.
In accordance with Ron's wishes, he will be cremated. The family requests to please watch a local news broadcast in remembrance of Ron.
May his soul rest in peace, reunited with Kathy, and may his legacy live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Memorials in memory of Ron may be made to the Adair County Humane Society. Donations may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
