Captain Klabo Obituary

Captain John Andrew Klabo

Captain John Andrew Klabo of Bainbridge Island passed away peacefully on June 6, 2021 after many years of complicated health battles.

He was born in Seattle, Washington on October 31, 1944 to John Robert and Anona Beth Klabo. He attended grade school and junior high in Seattle prior to his family moving permanently to their summer home on Hood Canal.

John graduated from Central Kitsap, class of 1963. He married his high school sweetheart Sherry Anne Dlugosh in Spring of 65.

In 1970 John began working for the Alaska Marine Highway and before too long had worked his way up the command to Master. He dedicated 36 years to the ferries, making lifelong friends, serving the people of Alaska, mostly working in Prince William Sound and enjoying the awe and wonder of our country's most untouched state.

John enjoyed many simple pleasures in life such as sports, music, food and family. He kept up with all the races including NASCAR and the horses. He was an avid racquetball player and poker player. Supporting his grandchildren, nieces and nephews in their individual endeavors made his heart happy. He enjoyed spending time with his siblings and keeping his family entertained with his funny stories and love of all pets. He especially loved walking his dog Bart and later Beau.

Despite his health challenges his spirit was mighty and his attitude inspirational. John was preceded in death by his Father, Mother, sister Sarah, brother in law Dan, and his wife Sherry.

He is survived by his sisters Debbie( Charlie) and Martina (Greg), his brother Trygve, his son John Edward ( Trish) of Ocean Shores, his daughter Felicia ( Michael ) of Bainbridge Island, seven grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends that are like family.

Our family would like to take this opportunity to thank his full time caregiver Tiffony who made our lives whole. Her dedication and care for our Papa was extraordinary.

A celebration of life will be held on August 7th at 3 pm at the Sons of Norway in Poulsbo Washington.

Sorry to hear about John's passing!! I remember John, when a group of us in three VW buses went to Mexico in the early seventies!! Some of the most memorable memories I've had over my life and I think John would say the same thing!! I work with John on the Bartlett and remember his first days on the Bartlett, Sorry that I didn't keep in touch with him. Good sailing to you John and your new adventure !!

Sorry to learn of John's passing. Our heartfelt condolences to the family. I went to high school with John. We used to pull some off the
wall stunts. Wish I would have kept in touch.
God Bless,
