David Johnson Obituary

David R. Johnson

August 2, 1947-

January 5, 2020

Dave rests in Jesus after losing the earthly battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Sally Johnson (Gig Harbor) and daughters Carrie, Heather, and Sara, who blessed him with a total of nine grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Susan Wydra (Shelton). Preceding him in death were his parents Bob and Alice Johnson, and sister Deborah Johnson. Dave was a Navy veteran from 65-69, serving in Vietnam. After many interesting jobs, he became a crane mechanic at the Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, retiring in 2011. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for February 8th at Waypoint Church in Gig Harbor at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, consider a gift to the Fleet Reserve Association, an organization that Dave deemed important.

David was an intelligent, honest, beautiful man, who was always there for his family. We had twelve good years together. I will miss with all my heart.

I was very sad to hear this news. Dave was a great friend and an awesome co-worker. I was hoping to meet him at one of the breakfast get together's.
I remember he attended my father's funeral when he passed away in 2000 and it meant a lot to me. RIP my friend.

I was sadden to here of DJ's passing. We completed many projects/jobs together that needed a group effort to complete, which he was the center off. Well miss you Dave

I worked with Dave for a number of years on Swingshift at PSNS. I respected him and I could trust him. I still remember how he would have the heaviest tool bag of anyone else I knew and had to hoist them or carry them up to the crane work area. He also knew how to use those tools well and was one of the few who would double wrench like it was an easy and normal work practice. He also loved golf and would even practice a little during lunch-break in the shop. I still remember how he would hoist his rain gear up in front of the heater to be ready for the next day. I was saddened to learn of Dave passing. Condolences to his family.

I certainly agree with Todd. Dave was a great guy and mechanic and a real pleasure to work with. I enjoyed Dave's sense of humor also. I also did not see Dave since his and my retirement. Dave will certainly be missed greatly. My prayers/condolences for his family.

I was saddened and shocked to learn of Dave's passing. He was a wonderful guy and a great mechanic and I always enjoyed working with him. I haven't seen him often since retirement, but I'm going to miss the rare occasions when we could get together. My condolences to his family.
