Eugene Lobe Obituary

Eugene (Gene) Clarence Lobe

Bremerton - Eugene (Gene) Clarence Lobe, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on March 19, 2021 and into the arms of our Heavenly Father. He was born in Ritzville, WA Dec. 10, 1929 to John and Lydia Lobe. They moved from farm to farm in those days as a family. So many wonderful stories we heard about them. He married Naomi Farrier on October 3, 1948. They were high school sweethearts and celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary last year in 2020 just before Naomi's passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Louie, Everett and Otto. His sisters, Ruth, Edna, Esther, and Hulda. He is survived by his children, Vickie (Denny) Veloni, Val (Steve) Anderson, Vance (Sheryl) Lobe, grandchildren Stephanie (Joel) Combs, Erik (Amy) Goninan, Tyler (Megan) Lobe, Matt (Brittany) Lobe, Jacob (Arika) Lobe, 7 great grandchildren and many, many nephews and nieces.

Gene and Naomi started their lives in Sprague, WA where they lived and attended school. He joined the Air Force soon after they were married and was then stationed in Vallejo, California. He was stationed in various air force bases around the country during the Korean War, working on the engines of the planes. Gene and Naomi then moved with their young family to Odessa, WA until 1959 when they moved to Bremerton where he then was the distributor for Richfield Oil that later became Arco. He also was very involved with sports and sponsored a couple of men's slowpitch teams, (Gene Lobe Rich Heat) (Recyclables) and a men's fastpitch team from 1964 for more than 20 years. He was very active in establishing the fields at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds which are named after him. He was a Kitsap County Commissioner from 1969 to 1982. Gene was also on the Board of Directors for Paratransit for many, many years having his last meeting a month ago. He thought he was finally going to retire, but decided to run for the Mayor of Bremerton which he was from 1986 thru 1989. During those years and then after finally retiring, Gene and Naomi bought a 5th wheel and began to travel all over the United States with their traveling buddies Kenny and JoAn Berg for many, many years.

Everywhere he went, or worked or played, he touched the lives of many, he will truly be missed, especially by his family. He so missed Naomi when she passed and now they are together again, so until we all meet again………….

There will be no service at this time, but in the near future there will be a memorial service for Gene and Naomi together.

Donations in Gene's name may be made to the Kitsap Athletic Round Table.

Gene was an inspiration-serving in the military, guiding our community, promoting sports and healthy competition. Mainly, while juggling all of this, he and Naomi were devoted parents.

We shall miss them for many more reasons.
