Alvin Diggs Obituary

DIGGS, ALVIN M. JR. - age 81, a resident of the Marlow Community in Anderson County, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. Mr. Diggs was born March 13, 1930 in Anderson County. He was a lifelong resident of this area. Alvin served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he entered into the TN Army National Guard and continued his employment with the TN Guard for 39 years. While serving in the Korean War he received several medal, badges, commendations and citations including the Combat Infantry Badge, Occupation Medal of Japan, Korean Service Medal W/2 Bronze Stars, United States Service Medal, United States Bronze Star Medal, and a Purple Heart Medal. Mr. Diggs is a member of the Poplar Creek Baptist Church and he served the church as a Deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Diggs, Sr. and Ada Byrd Diggs and by a brother, Carl Diggs. Mr. Diggs is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Marlow, by daughters; Danita Stanfield and husband, Jerry Wayne of Nathalie, VA and Evangeline Collett and husband, Glenn of Clinton, by grandchildren; Celina Tinker and husband Paul, Jacob T. Collette and Rachel Collette, by great-grandchildren; Savannah Diggs, Addison Tinker and Ethan Tinker all of Clinton. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Carolyn Diggs of Harriman, by three nephews and one niece, by several cousins, extended family members and special friends. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 17, 2011, between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastors, Jerry Wayne Sanfield, Matt Reed and Donald Moore Officiating. Burial and graveside services with full military honors will be held Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Anderson memorial Gardens. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
