Betty Gibson Obituary
Knoxville - Betty Gibson, age 88, passed away suddenly but peacefully, Sunday, May 2, 2021, at UT Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.
Betty was born on May 30, 1932, in Norton, VA to Bessie and John P. Conner and was sister to Johnny Conner and Jane Portrum. She was married to Charlie "Buddy" Gibson, Sr. in the Baptist Church on December 28, 1951 in Jonesville, VA. Soon after, moving to Tennessee, Betty spent most of her time raising and caring for their five children living in Knoxville and Clinton, a short stint in Moblie, AL and finally settling back to Morristown, TN in 1985. There she happily took on the task of raising and caring for her youngest daughters three children, Curtis, Chasity, and DJ as her own. She was a loving wife, a devoted and selfless daughter, mother, and grandmother that was the ultimate caregiver for the family and all of those around her. Often referred to by her husband as "the best woman God put on this earth", all those whose lives she touched and hearts she filled would say a big AMEN TO THAT.
In addition to her husband Charlie, Betty was preceded in death by her mother Bessie Conner and father John Parks Conner, Sr., her brother Johnny and sister Jan. She is survived by daughters: Cathy Clearman (Harry) of Knoxville, TN, Karen Harris (David) of Kingston, TN, Cheri Gibson of Birmingham, AL; sons: Church Gibson (Revonne) of Knoxville, TN, Scott Gibson (Sharon) of Sevierville, TN. Betty is also survived by 7 grandsons, 4 granddaughters and 8 great grandsons and 8 great granddaughters.
Visitation will be held at Mayes Mortuary, 444 West Main St. Morristown, TN on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM with funeral services to follow at 1:00. A private family graveside and burial will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the American Heart Association or performing an unexpected or unsolicited act of kindness for someone in need in honor of Betty.
Betty Gibson continues to live on in the Hearts and Minds of her loving family and friends!!
