Betty Lou Murrell

Knoxville - Betty Lou Murrell, age 95, went to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon, May 17, 2021. She had been a resident of the West Hills Health & Rehab facility for several years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John Elvin Murrell and Mamie Leora Murrell.

Betty Lou graduated from Knoxville High School in 1944 and later earned her Licensed Practical Nurse's Certificate. She was employed by Dr. Fred West in South Knoxville until he retired and worked at Shannondale Health Care Center and for Hillcrest West Nursing Home until she retired in 1994.

Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Odessa and Kenneth Roberts, nephews, John E. Roberts, and J. Douglas Roberts.

She is a former member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for six-year-olds for approximately 10 years and is currently a member of the Central Baptist Church, Bearden, where she taught a young adult class and substituted as a teacher in a senior women's class. Later, she taught in the newly formed Singles' Department until the year 2000. She enjoyed all her teaching years.

A family graveside service will be held at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, May 22, 1:00 pm with Reverend Mark Moreland officiating.
