Brian Trammell Obituary

Brian Trammell

Knoxville, TN

Brian Hardy Trammell, 58, of Knoxville, died in his home on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016. He was well known as an accomplished attorney, as a church leader, and a dedicated husband and father. His warmth and humor will be greatly missed. Preceded in death by his father, Herbert Trammell, Brian is survived by his wife, Zayna; mother, Jane Trammell; children, Andrew (Robyn) Trammell, Alex (Audi) Trammell, Rebecca (Nick) McDonough, and Charles Trammell; grandchild, Zoey Trammell; siblings, Carmen (Tom Swain) Trammell, Bert Trammell, and Lisa (Buzz) Thomas; and nieces, Rachel (Brian Theriac) Thomas and Sarah Thomas.

Brian grew up in Oak Ridge and later attended the University of Tennessee, where he earned his undergraduate and law degrees. As an attorney, Brian gained the respect of his peers with a rare combination of courtesy and talent. Brian served for

several years as President at Kennerly, Montgomery, and Finley, P.C. before leaving in 2008 to form Trammell, Adkins, and Ward, P.C., with his law partners Terry Adkins and Ken Ward. Some of his achievements include tenures as President of the Tennessee Defense Lawyers Association, State Representative for the Defense Research Institute, and President of the Tennessee Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Having been an enthusiastic mentor to many young attorneys, Brian's absence will be keenly felt in the Knoxville legal community. Brian devoted much of his time to Church Street United Methodist Church, where he married his wife, saw his four children baptized and confirmed, and compiled a record of service that included two terms as Chairman of the Church Council. Brian loved his church and never shied from an opportunity to serve. He also volunteered as Treasurer of the Montgomery Village Ministry. Although Brian found joy and success as a lawyer and a lay leader, he made his greatest impact in the lives of those he loved. He will be remembered by his family for his warmth, his humility, his joviality, and his endless optimism.

A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, April 2, at Church Street United Methodist Church at 10:00 A.M. Memorial Gifts in Brian's honor are being accepted by Church Street United Methodist Church towards the construction of the Church Street memorial garden. P.O. Box 1303 Knoxville, TN 37901. I just learned today of Brian's passing. While I did not work with Brian daily, our professional association has existed for many years. I am honored to have known and worked with him. I am deeply saddened and extend my deepest sympathy to the Trammell family. Life is a wonderful and precious gift from God and often in my humble opinion way too short. May God give you comfort.

It was an honor to have worked with Brian. He was not only an exceptional attorney, but an even better man.
As a young lawyer, I enjoyed his teachings and insight into the practice of law, but even more so, I enjoyed the stories about his family. I will miss his laid back, encouraging, and positive nature in the office. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Trammell family.

I was saddened to read of Brian's passing, and yet, this was assuaged by reading of his devotion through his church. In school in Oak Ridge, Brian was always well met and considerate. My sympathy is extended to the outstanding Trammell family. - R.P. Prince

Zayna, my heart breaks for you and your family now. I have always held Brian in such high regard for his dedication to our church. One of the most interesting Sunday School classes I ever experienced was one that he taught on "The Case for Christianity." So much so, that I have purchased that book since I learned of his death. Please know that you are in my heart and thoughts in the difficult days now and ahead.
With love and regards, Dawn von Weisenstein (Brentwood TN)

I met Brian while we were in undergrad. I followed him to law school and being one year behind him, I often asked him for advice. He always gave me good advice. I moved back to West TN upon graduation and our times together obviously lessened. But I caught up with him last year in Nashville and we picked right back up where we left off. He was a GREAT friend to have and I will miss him. I hope his Family knows there are a whole bunch of folks like me whose life was made better by knowing and sharing time with Brian.

As an attorney working on the other side of Brian, he was thoughtful, smart, dedicated, hard working, and kind. His professionalism and candor were second to none. Best of all though, you could consider Brian a friend after working with him just once. He will be missed and remembered by so very many in our legal community and my thoughts go out to his family.

My sincerest sympathies to Brian's family. We were classmates in law school. He was a fine man and a great lawyer. I recall those days of hard work and strain as being much more pleasant with Brian's wonderful sense of humor and perspective on what we were learning. Gods speed my friend.
