David Marsh Obituary

David Marsh

Knoxville - David Turner Marsh, age 60 of Knoxville, passed away on Thursday, December 10 at Summit View of Farragut. David was born February 1, 1960 in Oak Ridge, TN to Fred and Virginia Marsh, the second of five sons. He was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church.

David attended Farragut Middle School and High School before transferring his senior year to Harrison Chilhowee Academy (The King's Academy) in Seymour, TN. While at Farragut High School, David was a trumpet player in the high school band. In 1975 with Richard Jenkins as band director, the Farragut High School Band made a memorable trip to Mexico to play in the country's annual festival, attended by the President of Mexico. The band received excellent and superior ratings. Each band student was awarded a medal and honor certificate. David's love of music continued throughout his life.

Upon graduating from high school, David attended Tennessee Wesleyan College and the Technology Center of Knoxville where he received an Associate Degree in Business and Data Processing. His work experience in Knoxville included Cracker Barrel, Long John Silver's (head cook), and Spencer's Gifts. After moving to Atlanta, David became a Customer Service Supervisor for NCO Financial Systems-Healthcare Division for over 26 years, and later on he worked for Comcast for a short period.

David is preceded in death by his father, Fred E. Marsh Jr. and his brother, Michael Steven Marsh. He is survived by his mother, Virginia Shalibo Marsh; brothers, Fred E. Marsh III (Teresa), John Marsh (Joanna) and Robert Marsh (Monique); nieces, Mackenzie and Sophie Marsh; nephews, Ryan, Jimmy, and Eli Marsh.

David was a kind, gentle, and loving person who persevered through many medical trials with a valiant spirit. His motto, "Stay strong!" We will miss "Uncle Dave" so much. His faith in God, love of life, and strength of spirit are a wonderful example for us which will live on in our hearts forever.

A private family service and interment will be held at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Rebekah Fetzer officiating.

We would also like to extend our appreciation to the staff at Summit View of Farragut for their excellent care of David during his stay in the long term care unit.

Memorial donations may be made to Manna House (Cokesbury Food Pantry) or Susannah's House (a program to support drug addicted mothers and their babies) through Cokesbury United Methodist Church at 9919 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37922 or you may perform an act of kindness for someone in David's memory.
